A piece of Steuben designer glass is engraved with an abrasive applied to a copper wheel, much the same way it was done a hundred years ago. A piece can take weeks of painstaking, exacting work, the master engraver holding it in place while the wheel and the abrasive do the work.

Steuben Gaffer Jeff Babcock and his team work have nearly finished combining two pieces of glass that had been combined into one.

Program producer and narrator Tom Milligan stands at the video wall, part of the science and technology exhibits at the newly-reinvented Corning Museum of Glass, demonstrating the enormous information-carrying capacity of optical fiber, which Corning, Inc. first made a practical reality.
