Legendary drummer, George Reed, played all over the world with some big names of jazz, but it wasn’t the big names that he found most intriguing. He was committed to teaching the musicians of future generations the creativity that can come from jazz. After Reed’s death in 2011, a scholarship was started in his name. The George Reed Jazz Scholarship invites young musicians from all over our region to apply. On April 27 at 3pm at the Park Church in Elmira, there will be a celebratory concert with special guest, bassist "Big Walt" Stinson, and this year's recipient will be announced.
Sarah Gager speaks with Patrick Leslie, saxophonist, Senior at Horseheads High School, and an applicant for the scholarship.
More information about the concert can be found here.
