Throughout 2014, our news department will explore stories of poverty in Upstate New York. We'll examine how decades of changes in the region's economy have affected the neighborhoods, villages and people of our region. The stories will air semi-regularly during Morning Edition (5-9am on WSKG and 9-11am on WSQX). Among the topics we'll look at are the search for solutions to urban blight, the transition from a manufacturing economy, the perspectives of outsiders on culture and politics, the unique challenges faced by rural communities and economic disparities in health care and education.
