Domestic violence, also known as domestic abuse, spousal abuse, child abuse or intimate partner violence, affects more than 32 million Americans and can take many forms. While physical abuse is certainly part of domestic abuse, other abusive behaviors include psychological or emotional abuse, economic abuse, verbal abuse and sexual abuse. The aggressors can be either male or female, although the majority of studies have shown that domestic abuse victims are usually female.
