The Lonesome Drum

We feature segments from an original play by Mary Guzzy of Corning Community College: The Lonesome Drum: An American Tale. Excerpts are performed in the WSKG studio by the college's "Two Bit Players" group. The play chronicles three local historical figures.

Jemima Wilkinson was the first American woman to found a religious movement. In the late 1700's she established a utopian community on Keuka Lake, near what is now Penn Yan. Frederick Carder founded Steuben Glass. John W. Jones was a former slave and station master of the Underground Railroad and former sexton of Woodlawn National Cemetery, the only official Confederate cemetery in the North.
