The Cardboard Bernini follows Jimmy Grashow over six years as he builds a monumental, intricately detailed cardboard version of the Trevi fountain. His goal is to show the work, and then let the elements destroy it, as he works through his own ambivalence about the making and meaning of art and life. Best known for his intricate woodcuts and editorial illustrations in some of the nation’s leading media, Grashow is at turns humorous, effusive and introspective, offering a rare glimpse of the intensity of the artist’s inner world, studio technique and dialogue with the universe though his art. This illuminating portrait glows from within, leaving an indelible sense of what it means to make, to question and to let go.
