Senator Mike Gianaris joins us to talk about the session, its failures and victories. One failure for good government? A campaign finance provision in the gambling bill was deleted. It would have limited gambling interests from donating heavily to the very politicians who will determine the locations of casino gambling venues in the state.
Another failure took place last week in Washington when the House couldn’t pass a flawed farm bill… or even come up with a bill not punitive to the nation’s working poor. The bill that was voted on would have ended food stamp assistance for 2 million people. We speak to two guests about the bill, first, NY Farm Bureau President Dean Norton, and then we follow up with the Executive Director of the Hunger Action Network, Mark Dunlea.
SUNY Adjunct Professor of Political Science Bruce Gyory of Corning Place shares his analysis of the legislation session.
