INSIDE WSKG | FEBRUARY 2013

The winter's been cold, but hearts should always be warm! Share the love during our I <3 WSKG campaign.

Highlights: I <3 WSKG campaign and one-day radio fundraiser, all new Expressions episode, return of the WSKG Music Bowl, an annual celebration of art, new episodes of Downton Abbey and a day with Buddy the T-Rex

WSKG Radio brings you the best in news, music, culture and community each day. You listen in your home and in your car, on your computer and on your smartphone. Thank you for making us a part of your day - where ever you go, you go with your local public radio. On February 14th, we’ll bring you our annual one-day fundraiser. Help keep WSKG in your day by donating at WSKG.org! Between now and February 14th, tell us why you love WSKG. Visit wskg.org/heart for instructions on how you can share your love for local public radio, and see responses from other WSKG aficionados.

On February 7th at 8:00pm, see an all-new episode of Expressions featuring violinist Elmar Oliveira and pianist John Covelli. Oliveira expands repertoire boundaries as a champion of both contemporary music and rarely-heard works of the past, devotes considerable energy to the development of younger artists and enthusiastically supports the efforts and art of modern violin makers. During Covelli's two decade tenure as Music Director of the Binghamton Philharmonic, he also served as Principal Conductor of the Glendale Symphony, as well as Music Director of the Greater Palm Beach Symphony.

On Sunday, February 3rd, WSKG will not have the game on. But we will have a day-long half-time show! Join us for the WSKG Music Bowl starting at 11:00am with Peter, Paul and Mary: Carry It On, enter the second half with Superstars Of Seventies Soul Live (My Music), and finish strong with back-to-back episodes of Downton Abbey.

The Binghamton Association for the Education of Young Children (BAEYC) invites artists to participate in this celebration of infancy and childhood. The exhibit serves to bring awareness to and cultivate appreciation for early childhood issues. Submit your or your child's artwork by February 17th.

Have you been watching the new season of Downton Abbey? Each Sunday in February through the 17th, WSKG TV will air the newest episode of Downton Abbey  at 9:00pm, preceded by the previous week's episode at 8:00pm. Don't miss a minute of the love, drama and good old fashioned British fun!

Join the WSKG Education team at Roberson Museum and Science Center on February 23rd from 12:00pm to 4:00pm for activities, exploration and family fun! Plus, enjoy a meet and greet with Buddy the T-Rex of Dinosaur Train. All Dinosaur Train activities come free with admission. more info

In Shakespeare Uncovered, six episodes combine history, biography, iconic performances, new analysis and the personal passion of its celebrated hosts — Ethan Hawke, Jeremy Irons, Derek Jacobi, Trevor Nunn, Joely Richardson and David Tennant — to tell the story behind the stories of Shakespeare’s greatest plays. On February 1st at 9:00pm, see Richard II with Derek Jacobi, and on February 8th at 9:00pm, see Hamlet with David Tennant, both on WSKG TV.

Two guests whose family crises moved them to write books about their experiences appear together for an hour on Off the Page. Martha Stettinius of Ithaca is author of Inside the Dementia Epidemic: A Daughter’s Memoir, her journal of her late mother’s memory loss and decline. Dave Elder of Vestal wrote Expecting the Broken Brain to Do Mental Pushups: A Personal Journey to Understanding Schizophrenia and Depression about his mother’s illness. Hear this episode on February 5th at 1:00pm on WSKG Radio.
