Welcome to Downton Abbey! It is 1916, and World War I has shaken Downton Abbey to its very foundations. As a way of life is forever blasted apart, both heroes and villains struggle to survive and forge ahead. The Primetime Emmy® Award-winning series from Julian Fellowes (Gosford Park) returns to Masterpiece: Classic in 2012! Maggie Smith, Hugh Bonneville, Elizabeth McGovern and Dan Stevens headline the remarkable cast as war intrudes. Tune in Sundays at 8:00pm starting January 8th on WSKG TV. more info
Listen for New Year’s Day From Vienna, the annual celebration concert by the Vienna Philharmonic featuring the waltzes, marches and gallops of the Strauss family and much more. Mariss Jansons conducts this festive entry into 2012. Listen January 1st at 11:00am on WSKG Radio.
On January 13th at 9:00pm, Anna Deavere Smith interviews an eclectic range of people and then performs as the interviewees in their own words in Great Performances: Let Me Down Easy. This new gallery of indelible portraits ranges from boldface names such as cyclist Lance Armstrong to lesser-known but equally memorable characters, including a rodeo bull rider — all sharing their searing experiences in confronting the price and politics of health, facing the end of life and encountering the ultimate resilience of the human spirit.
Freakonomics Radio returns with five new episodes starting January 5th at 1:00pm on WSKG Radio with “The Days of Wine and Mouses”. Host Stephen Dubner uses the tools of economics to explore real-world behavior. Through engaging stories, the program explores “the hidden side of everything”.
Explore a whole new “World” on WSKG TV: starting January 2012, “WSKG 2″ will become “WSKG World TV”. The World Channel features the best of public television’s non-fiction, documentary and public affairs programming, including NOVA, FRONTLINE, American Experience, Nature and more, and World Channel programming will replace programming previously found on WSKG 2. WSKG World TV, channels 46.2 and 30.2, can be found on channel 705 on most Time Warner cable systems.
