VAN JONES, Founder of the Ella Baker Center for Human Rights,
and former Advisor to President Obama. Jones broke new ground with
his proposal for a green-collar economy, stating that, "the time
has come to move beyond eco-elitism to eco-populism." He fights for
environmental justice and to create an economy that is both
sustainable and that lifts up the poorest communities through
green-collar jobs. Jones describes how the third wave of
environmentalism, the investment wave, could solve inequality and
catastrophe with a "Green New Deal" mindset. As presented to
the Commonwealth Club of California.

The Deepwater Horizon oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico has
prompted many individuals to ask tough questions about our
dependence on oil and other fossil fuels. In July, WSKG producer
Crystal Sarakas will focus on this issue on Community Conversation.
On July 13th, we'll talk about other sources of energy
and how tapping those sources may ease our dependence on oil. Then,
on July 27th, we'll look at the role that petroleum
plays in our everyday lives and what changes we would have to make
as consumers to lessen our oil consumption.

Snap Judgment is a themed, weekly NPR
storytelling show focused on presenting compelling personal stories
- mixing tall tales with killer beats to produce cinematic,
dramatic and hard-hitting radio. We are sponsored by the
Corporation for Public Broadcasting and distributed through NPR and
Public Radio Exchange (PRX).
Host Glynn Washington has been spreading
the storytelling gospel and hobnobbing with interesting folks
around the world for years, so you may have shared a Singapore
Sling with him once upon a time. But he got his start in radio when
he beat out thousands of contestants to win the CPB and PRX Public
Radio Talent Quest.
Broadcasting on WSKG Radio Monday nights
at 8pm with new episodes each week.

The decline of manufacturing jobs in the last few decades has
led to a steady population loss in New York. Cities also face
numerous challenges in attracting young, educated people to the
state, and that threatens the long-term sustainability of our
region. Join Crystal Sarakas for a conversation about 'Brain Drain'
and what can be done to reverse it. Now available for online
