Chemung County is planning on cutting 30 staff positions as it grapples with lost jobs and a dramatic drop in sales tax revenue. At a presentation in Elmira on Monday, County Executive Tom Santulli said the county has lost 2,000 jobs in the last two years and seen a 6 percent drop in sales tax revenues since last year.

The county has cut 27 jobs already this year. In addition to the new layoffs, the county is considering privatizing its nursing home and cutting the amount of sales tax revenue it sends to towns.
