BINGHAMTON, N.Y. (AP) - A landowners coalition and a community college are sponsoring a job fair to showcase careers that stand to benefit from shale gas drilling if regulators give the industry the green light in New York state.
Businesses participating in the career and education expo at Broome Community College on Wednesday include wildlife consultants and landscapers in addition to gas-drilling companies. About 30 businesses will be represented. Some will demonstrate technology
such as water recycling equipment.
Steve Herz, a Broome County legislator, says many of the companies are already benefiting from the natural gas boom about 20 miles south of Binghamton in Pennsylvania and hope to expand if New York lifts its four-year-old ban this year.
The state put drilling on hold in 2008 while new regulations were being drafted.
