Governor Andrew Cuomo says if the legislature passes a law legalizing medical marijuana in New York, he would consider signing it.
Cuomo recently used an executive order to allow 20 hospitals to prescribe marijuana for certain illnesses, like cancer.
The governor now says he would consider expanding the program.
"I support the effort, that’s why we’re doing it already," said Cuomo. 'If they have a piece of legislation and the legislation makes sense then I would sign it."
Critics of the executive order, announced in his State of the State speech this year, say it did not go far enough. A bill is making its way through the State Senate and another has passed the Assembly.
