City officials in Ithaca are going to make it easier for property owners to have sidewalk work done this year count toward a new fee.
In the past, Ithaca property owners were responsible to repair any cracks or damage to the concrete in front of their property. But under a new policy, residents will pay an annual fee for sidewalk improvement.
Some residents who have recently repaired their sidewalks wanted credit but lacked the proper paperwork. So the city will grant retroactive permits to property owners if they provide proof that they’ve done the work.
Only work done before January 1st is eligible and applications must be sent in before December 31.
