Workers at Lockheed Martin’s facilities in central New York and the Southern Tier are being hit by another round of layoffs.
A total of six-hundred of the defense contractor’s workers around the country will be out of a job early next month.
Just how many staff in upstate New York will be affected isn’t currently known. The layoffs are in Mission Systems and Training. The same unit lost 139 workers in the Syracuse area and Owego in August.
The company again blamed continuing challenges in the business environment, including uncertain funding. A spokesman says the layoffs are independent from the effects on company from the two-week government shutdown.
Affected employees will be formally notified on November 6.
