Congressman Tom Reed will hold six listening sessions in the Southern Tier this week before returning to Washington for the debate over military strikes in Syria.
Reed will visit Big Flats, Owego and Geneva on Tuesday and make three more stops on Wednesday.
President Obama announced last week that he will seek Congressional approval for military strikes after a chemical weapons attack killed about 1400 people near the capital Damascus.
Reed says the purpose of the visits is to gather public opinion.
Congress is expected to debate the proposed military intervention starting September 9.
