Illion, the home of a major gun manufacturer in upstate New York felt a little ignored as the state quickly passed new gun control legislation this week.

Remington Arms has been a staple of this Mohawk Valley community's economy for almost 200 years.

The plant employs about 1,300 people making several types of rifles, including one that will now be banned for sale in the state.

Herkimer County Chamber of Commerce director John Scarano says the community feels it should have been given more of a say in such a sensitive issue."Without even this three day waiting period, that's, in my mind, that's not good. I'm not sure Remington had their say in court, if you will."

In Rochester on Wednesday at a ceremonial signing of the new gun laws, Governor Andrew Cuomo said he doesn't think the new laws will have a "significant impact" on Remington.

But rumors were already circulating in Ilion yesterday afternoon that the company could lay off a few hundred workers.

The gun maker has not returned several requests for comment.
