NEWBURGH, N.Y. (AP) - Sen. Charles Schumer is going to be in the Hudson Valley talking about combatting the addiction of newborns to painkillers.
He says the problem has been growing and he'll be at St. Luke's Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh to talk about it Monday afternoon.
Schumer says the number of infants born at the hospital with addictions to painkillers or other opiates has tripled in that past decade.
Among the solutions he'll discuss are educating pregnant or future mothers about addiction and doctors about identifying prescription drug abuse and treating addicted babies.
