COVERT, N.Y. (AP) - The search has been suspended for a missing Cornell University senior who disappeared while canoeing in one of the Finger Lakes.

Seneca County Sheriff Jack Stenberg released a statement Monday evening saying search efforts were suspended after consulting with the family of 22-year-old Christopher Dennis, who has been missing since Wednesday.

Dennis, an Ithaca native, left a campsite around 5 a.m. Wednesday and set out alone in a canoe on Cayuga Lake. His friends found the overturned canoe in the middle of the lake later that day.

The sheriff said that while the official search has been suspended, his agency will continue to track down any leads.
