New York State saw another month of growth in private sector jobs in June, bringing the statewide unemployment rate down a tenth of a percentage point, to 6.6 percent.
The largest gains in Binghamton compared to one year ago were in natural resources, mining and construction and hospitality. Those areas saw the largest boosts across the Southern Tier. Ithaca, which added 400 jobs, saw its biggest gains in education and health services.
Statewide, more than 50,000 education and health services jobs were added during the past year. The biggest losses were in manufacturing and government, which both shrank by more than 5,000 jobs.
