Officials at SUNY Broome Community College will recieve the largest philanthropic gift in the college’s history. The school received $10 million to start a scholarship fund.

The gift is from the Estate of Emil Calice, a longtime Binghamton resident. Calice worked at the IBM plant in Endicott after World War 2.

Executive Director of the Broome Community College Foundation Cathy Williams, says the school will use the endowment to provide need-based and merit-based scholarships to students.

Calice wasn’t a college graduate but according to his family, he wanted to provide the opportunity for others to get an education.
