Upstate NY communities get $650K for flooding work

ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York state has awarded about $650,000 in grants to help 13 flood-ravaged upstate communities recover from the back-to-back storms Irene and Lee.
The program provides funding up to $50,000 for rebuilding businesses, residences and infrastructure.
The towns and villages are in Greene, Schenectady, Schoharie,Tioga, Orange, Essex, Broome and Delaware counties.
They include hard-hit Margaretville in the Catskills, which applied for the money to assess future flood threats and possible projects to prevent damage.
The deadline for the second round of grants administered by the
Department of State is March 1.
