This month Binghamton University, American Red Cross, United Way of Broome County, Southern Tier 8, and Broome County Planning will co-host a two day Climate Change Summit. We will work together to address urgent challenges posed by climate change to our local community through a collaborative Climate Change Summit, scheduled for April 26th and 27th. This event will bring together community organizations, stakeholders, and residents to strategize, innovate, and take decisive action towards climate resilience and sustainability. The first day is designed to cater towards organizations whereas the second day is designed to cater towards individuals.
The second day of the Summit will focus on disseminating progress updates from Day 1 and engaging community members in hands-on activities and educational sessions. Attendees will have an opportunity to participate in a climate simulation exercise utilizing En-ROADS, an online simulator that enables exploration of cross-sector climate solutions. Following this simulation exercise, participants will split into groups tailored for homeowners and renters. Representatives from various organizations will lead activities focused on energy, food, waste management, resiliency, health, and climate anxiety, equipping attendees with practical strategies for mitigation and adapting to climate change in their personal lives.
Additionally, ICS Industries is sponsoring a recycling collection event for electronics (such as TV's, monitors, computers, etc.), appliances (such as microwaves, refrigerators, air conditioners, washing machines, etc.), metal items (such as small tools), books, newspapers, magazines, and paper documents, all at no charge during Day 2 of the Climate Change Summit! Paper documents will be shredded and computer hard drives will be disintegrated. Tires, hazardous waste (such as motor oil, paint, batteries, fluorescent light bulbs, chemicals, etc.) will not be accepted.
