Robots Rule in Vestal Youth's PBS KIDS Writers Contest Story

Heyan Chung received 1st place in the Grade 2 category of WSKG's local 2016 PBS KIDS Writers Contest.  Heyan is 6 years old and in first grade in African Road Elementary school. He's been interested in robots, universe, and nature. He's read a few books about robots, and visiting Carnegie Science center in Pittsburg and MIT museum in Cambridge encouraged him to learn more about robots. His hobby is singing, origami, Legos, playing board games and collecting natural objects like stones, leaves and twigs. Heyan's older brother, Ian Chung, likes to share books that he already read, and Heyan enjoys reading those books together with Ian. His favorite book is The Trumpet of the Swan by E. B. White and I survived series.   He took a few minutes to answer questions we had about his experience:

What is your story about?  Can you summarize it in just a sentence or two? It is about robots' jobs and how they work. How did you come up with all of the different robots and do you have a favorite? By reading a few books and visiting museums including MIT museum in Cambridge, MA. Yes, Asimo is my favorite because it is designed to be the most helpful robot.

Are you working on any additional stories right now? No, but I am reading more books: I just finished a paragraph writing "math is the best".

Thank you for sharing this story with WSKG! How did you hear about the Contest? I found a flyer about it at the Endicott library.

Which part did you enjoy most -- writing the story or making drawings that accompanied the plot? Writing the story because it was more exact than the pictures.

Is there anything else you'd like to share? Junior ranger badges that I got from looking around and doing a little workbook in the national parks.
