Congratulations to Shyann Stroud, student at Greater Southern Tier BOCES, for the 'Best Documentary' honor in the 2017 Rod Serling Film Festival.
What is your film about? My film "Choices" is the story of my life, and how I dealt with certain tragedies in a positive light. How did you come up with the idea for your film?As a class we were tasked with writing a paper on Rod Serling. When looking at Serling's work and life he stayed very true to who he was and what he believed. When I made my film I wanted it to be something meaningful, raw, and over all true to who I am.Talk about your approach to the story and the elements you used.I wanted the viewers to feel a sense of connection to who I was and see the progression from then to me now. I used a spread of pictures to show the people mentioned in the story as well as myself.Thank you for sharing your film with WSKG! How did you hear about the Festival?I attended GST BOCES, and my awesome teacher makes all of his students show off the talents and techniques he has taught us over the course of two years.Which part of this experience did you enjoy most?I loved the creativity and the formalities. I was treated as a professional. From script writing to editing I was the creator of something that gives meaning to who I am because it is a boost in someone else's life.Anything else you'd like to share? This experience has given me so much respect for those who make films for a living. There is so much hard work and intentionality from ever aspect. From choosing the right background music to the words that are spoken it all has a way so swaying the thoughts of the people watching, and it's all because someone was honest in their production.
