In the late 1780’s pioneers from Vermont settled on rich farmland along the Susquehanna River. The settlement grew, and in 1791 the town of Jerico was formed. In 1814 the town was renamed “Bainbridge,” in honor of William Bainbridge, commander of the USS Constitution during the War of 1812.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shkBE4jijesFunding provided by a grant from Empire State Development.
