Deadline To Register To Vote In Congressional Primaries Is Friday

To have a say in the upcoming Congressional primaries, New Yorkers will need to register to vote by Friday. That won’t help all voters.

All primaries in New York State are closed. That means in order to vote people registering will need to declare a party. That’s been a big deal to New York voters this election season. Many registered voters weren’t able to vote in April’s presidential primary because the deadline to align with a party passed in October of last year.

People felt shut out of the primaries, and even two of Donald Trump’s own children weren’t able to vote because they were unaffiliated.

That’s not a problem for new voters. Those who register by Friday can choose a side and vote in the congressional primaries on June 28th.

There are primaries to replace two representatives planning to step down. Richard Hanna of the 22nd district, which includes Broome, Tioga, and Tompkins counties, and Chris Gibson who represents the 19th district, including Delaware, Otsego, and Greene.
