VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - A greeting card store in Ithaca is the target of verbal attacks from supporters of President Trump.
Early this week, a post showed up on a pro-Trump facebook page that pictured anti-Trump greeting cards on display at Mockingbird Paperie in Ithaca.
“The post basically said. ‘Here’s this store, they sell these bad things. Here’s their phone number, here’s their address, have at it,” said Tim Horner, whose wife runs the shop.*
The post urged people to call, but asked them to not make threats.
The cards read “Trump is a Douchebag” or “Trump is a Mother F****r", followed by a more traditional greeting like happy anniversary.
Horner has answered hundreds of calls since. Some callers have simply yelled slogans like “Trump 2020”. Others have threatened to burn the building down.
Still, Horner said many people have called to have a conversation about politics or the state of discourse in the country. “It would be unfair to the group that is calling to label them all as just raving lunatics because they’re not," he said. "They’re people who strongly held beliefs who are particularly opposed to that kind of a statement.”
For Horner, that is a bit of a silver lining.
