New York State Bids For Large-Scale Renewable Energy Projects

CANTON, NY (NCPR) - Gov. Andrew Cuomo is soliciting bids for large-scale renewable energy projects as part of his administration’s aggressive plan to combat climate change. Lt. Gov. Kathy Hochul tweeted it is "the largest ever combined solicitations for renewable energy ever issued in the U.S."

In a press release Tuesday, the governor’s office said they are seeking up to 4,000 megawatts of renewable capacity in the form of off-shore wind and other land-based projects. The investments will include $400 million in public and private funding.

He said these projects could generate enough power for half-a-million homes in New York and help the state’s economic recovery during the pandemic.

The governor signed the Climate Leadership and Community Protection Act last year, which sets a goal of reducing the state’s greenhouse gas emissions by 40% by 2030 and 85% by 2050.
