Binghamton University’s Harriet Tubman Center for Freedom and Equity officially opened the trail Tuesday.The center also unveiled the design for a new statue of Tubman to be placed next to the first marker on the trail alongside the Chenango River.

The five-week course draws on material from a textbook by SUNY Broome Professor Gian Roma. The textbook focuses on personal growth and decision making. Nearly 60 people inside the jail have participated in the course, according to the sheriff’s office.
