PBS Media Literacy Academy

WSKG is recruiting educators for a local PBS Media Literacy Academy cohort. This group of educators will work together with WSKG Education staff to work towards PBS Media Literacy Educator Certification.

The goal of the WSKG Media Literacy Academy is to provide support and training with media literacy skills and media content creation, make connections with other educators, receive support from WSKG Education and PBS staff, and work through micro-credentials together. Since many of our local educators are teaching or hosting learning experiences in the virtual space, we will be trying to help educators use as much existing content, lessons, and resources that they have already created to meet the micro-credentials.

This opportunity is open to all educators in the Greater Southern Tier region. An educator is anyone who is working directly with students —could be in a traditional school setting, museum, after-school or out-of-school program, library, homeschool, etc. Download the printable flyer (pictured above).

Here are the details:

WSKG's Media Literacy Academy will run from October 2022 through June 2023.

The ideal Media Literacy Academy educator:

  • Serves K-12 learners
  • Is already integrating media and using technology in their instruction
  • Has experience creating media content
  • Might be: technology coordinator, library media specialist, digital innovator, technology or media arts coach
  • Is interested in or already using PBS content in their classroom or learning space
  • Has bandwidth or capacity for a project like this

Participating educators will:

  • Receive NYS CTLE professional development credit
  • Be supported individually and as a group to work through micro-credentials towards PBS Media Literacy Educator Certification
  • Receive resources and training on a variety of media literacy-related topics
  • Use existing instructional content and materials to achieve micro-credentials

Interested educators should email education@wskg.org for more information or apply HERE.

This project is made possible by support from the Bert Santora Charitable Trust.
