Military Family Resources

As many as 700,000 U.S. children under the age of five have a parent in the military.  To help support the military families that live in our region, WSKG has created this resources page.  Here you find national and local initiatives offering important, specialized content for military families.  WSKG also has a variety of family toolkits available please contact jstapleton@wskg.org to learn more.  Additionally, you can find these materials in our community at the Greater Binghamton Airport's Military Family Room.Military Families Near and Far This is a free, bilingual website where military families can create, communicate, and stay connected. The site provides new ways for preschool and school-aged children to express themselves and communicate within their own family networks.  Materials from Sesame Street & The Electric Company provide resources for parents and caregivers to help children cope with challenging transitions.

Need to Know: Military FamiliesThe emotional impact of combat on those serving in the military is well recognized. But what about the military families left behind? Need to Know profiles three families to see the sacrifices military spouses and children make every day.

PBS Parents: Helping Military Families Cope with Change As your family works through challenging times, your child will need help sorting out their feelings. Consider engaging them in activities that focus on creative expression, handling anxieties, expressing feelings, family togetherness and other important concepts.

Talk, Listen, Connect Sesame Workshop created these bilingual multimedia outreach tools to offer first-rate media-based resources that support military families. This initiative helps military families and their young children cope with the challenges of deployment and build resilience in times of separation and significant change.
