VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - New York 22nd District Congressman Anthony Brindisi is criticizing AT&T for taking local television channels off of its subsidiary, DirecTV.
Over the July 4th holiday, DirecTV customers lost access to several stations. They include WIVT/WBGH in Binghamton and WETM in Elmira. Both are owned by Nexstar Media Group.
This comes after DirectTV dropped WICZ in Binghamton in February.
“These blackouts are a public safety issue," said Brindisi. "Many New Yorkers use local television to find out about breaking news, traffic accidents, and important weather events. These blackouts need to end.”
The Democrat's district includes Binghamton, Cortland and Norwich.
