VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - It’s been a week since Broome County District Attorney candidate Paul Battisti claimed victory in the Republican primary.
Now the election shifts toward November. Speaking after absentee ballots were counted last week, Battisti didn’t have much to say about his new opponent. “I’ve seen her, I know her, she’s in the community. I think I’m much more qualified and I look forward to seeing her on the campaign trail.”
Like Battisti, Democrat Debra Gelson is currently a defense attorney, she but touts her background in the courtroom.
Gelson's served as a prosecutor and as a judge, as well. Gelson said Battisti can’t match her experience.
“As with anyone, your qualifications are garnered from your experience as you go through the years and my 35 years of experience are my qualifications,” Gelson said.
The winner in November will replace Steve Cornwell. The Republican announced this month that he’s running for Congress.
