Rep. Brindisi Opposes Changes to Reproductive Health Funding

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — New York 22nd District Congressman Anthony Brindisi said elected officials need to be more vocal about their support of women’s reproductive health.

Brindisi’s comments come after Planned Parenthood’s rejection of federal funding.

As NPR reports, Planned Parenthood is leaving the Title X program rather than comply with new rules from the Trump administration. Title X is a family planning grant program. The new rules prohibit recipients from providing or referring patients for abortions, except in certain cases like rape, incest, or medical emergencies.

Brindisi opposes changes to Title X. He spoke on WCNY’s Capitol Pressroom Tuesday.

"We have to go back and review and see what we can do in Congress., Brindisi, a Democrat, said. "Obviously, Congress controls the purse-strings and we have to make sure that our values reflected in that."

Brindisi anticipates trouble from what he refers to as a divided government.
