VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - Storms on Wednesday and into Thursday have left thousands without power across New York. NYSEG said more than 37,500 people were reported without power at one point. That number is now less than 5,000
Thousands of outages were reported between Broome, Chemung, Chanango, Delaware, Schuyler, Seneca, Tioga and Tompkins Counties.
NYSEG said its crews are working to restore power in the area as quickly as possible. In the meantime, they warn people to stay away from downed wires and keep refrigerators closed during a power outage.
