ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Out of concern over recent racist incidents, officials at Cornell University released a statement calling for compassion. However, school officials declined WSKG’s request for more details on the incidents.
The four officials say fear over coronavirus has incited acts of bias against Asians and Asian Americans.
They called on Cornell faculty and staff to remain compassionate and they asked the public to understand the special pressures some students may face.
For example, some students have relatives in China, who are at risk of contracting the disease.
Last week, a second Cornell students tested negative for the virus. The test result for another student was also negative.
Cornell University is a WSKG Underwriter.
