Reed Pushes Back On Cuomo's Criticism Of Federal Aid Amid COVID-19 Pandemic

ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - New York 23rd District Congressman Tom Reed is pushing back against criticism from New York Governor Andrew Cuomo about the amount of money directed to the state in the federal COVID-19 assistance bill.

Reed's district includes Elmira, Ithaca, and Hornell.

Cuomo has complained that New York’s federal representatives, especially Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, didn't do enough for the state.

Reed, a Republican, disagrees.

"I know what we did in the CARES Act," Reed countered. "CARES Act is going to deliver billions of dollars to New York State to assist New York State through this crisis."

Reed said the emergency federal funding can’t make up the deficit that already existed in the New York budget. The state's budget deficit hovered around $6 billion even before the pandemic occurred.

New York's new fiscal year begins on Wednesday.
