Everyone’s heard of Seabiscuit, the legendary racehorse. Many are even familiar with the details of his 1937 win against War Admiral as popularized by movies and TV. But what made Seabiscuit such a success? Kate DeRosa and Steven Tammariello, PhD, sought to learn just that by examining Seabiscuit's genome.
Kate DeRosa is a doctoral candidate at Binghamton University and laboratory manager in the department of anthropology. For this talk, she will focus on the genetics behind champion racehorses. Aside from this project, her research focuses on molecular biology, human evolution, and tick-borne diseases.
