The New York state Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) announced several new actions to address per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) “forever chemicals” Thursday. These pollutants do not break down in the environment and are found in air, soil and water.

An emergency declaration passed by the sewage board allows it to make purchases and sign contracts outside normal procedures.

The vote comes hours after Mayor Rich David announced an agreement to "formally end" privatization plans

The council plans to reconvene Monday, April 12 at 6 p.m. to resume consideration of agreement.

Wednesday’s meeting will be conducted over Zoom and will begin at 6 p.m..
