Share Your Ride With ALEXA? WSKG Skill Offers Hands Free Radio To Motorists

Load the WSKG skill into your car’s media center for hands free listening, or into any ALEXA device. At your convenience, listen to the best programs offered by all of public radio. Maybe your new car is on this list of ALEXA friendly dashboards?

This single skill serves you on demand with programs from NPR, PBS, BBC, APM, PRI, independent producers and WSKG Public Radio. At your convenience, listen to Morning Edition, Wait Wait Don’t Tell Me, This American Life, The Retro Cocktail Hour, the PBS NewsHour and others.

Also available are the live feeds of public radio news programs, like 1A and Fresh Air, and a classical music stream curated by WSKG’s music hosts.

Once you've enabled the skill, say "Alexa, open WSKG", then follow its directions. For example, you can ask:

“Alexa, ask WSKG to play news” and you’ll hear live news coverage from NPR, the BBC and PRI.
"Alexa, ask WSKG to play music" and you’ll hear classical music curated by WSKG.
"Alexa, ask WSKG to browse programs” and it will list dozens of news and music shows offered by the WSKG skill.
“Alexa, ask WSKG to play the PBS NewsHour (or some other program)” and you’ll hear the latest edition.
“Alexa, HELP!” will provide useful advice on navigating the WSKG skill.

Here in blue are many of the programs offered on-demand:

It means you can hear more of WSKG and our programs in more places and at your convenience. Before arriving at your destination, you can catch up on local news and arts events, and spend a "Minute With Sam Sanders."

Nice Little Feature

Alexa offers a service that may be very convenient to commuters; it’s called a “Flash Briefing.” Using your car's Alexa app, you can customize a “Flash Briefing” with the news you choose.

After selecting your content, Alexa will play your list with a single, simple command, “Alexa, play my Flash Briefing.” If no new content is available, Alexa will skip over it.

However, it’s a great way to quickly find out, on the go, what’s happening from the sources that you rely upon.
