Opera Ithaca Artistic Director Zachary James joins us to talk about the New Year's Eve Gala performance of Gilbert and Sullivan's 'The Pirates of Penzance', preceded by a performance in at the Smith Opera House in Geneva on the December 30. He talks about playing the Pirate King and singing some operatic villains, such as Olin Blitch in Carlisle Floyd's 'Susannah' and Claggart in Benjamin Britten's 'Billy Budd.
