Hava, Maryam, Ayesha free screening with filmmaker Q&A
Join trailblazing Afghan filmmaker Sahraa Karimi for a free screening of her feature "Hava, Maryam, Ayesha" at Cinemapolis. The film follows three women from very different backgrounds as they confront personal crises in modern-day Kabul. It was the official Oscar entry for Afghanistan in 2019.
Karimi is the first and only Afghan woman with a PhD in film. She was forced to flee Kabul in 2021. She will take questions after the screening.
Sahraa Karimi’s visit is organized by Ithaca City of Asylum and Cornell's South Asia Program and made possible in part by funds from the Statewide Community Regrants program from the New York State Council on the Arts, with the support of the Office of the Governor and NYS Legislature, and from Tompkins County, administered by the Community Arts Partnership of Tompkins County. Additional financial support is provided by a Title VI grant from the U.S. Department of Education.
