VESTAL, NY (WSKG) - U.S. Agriculture Secretary Sonny Perdue is touring upstate New York on Wednesday.
Perdue’s trip includes a listening session at the Chobani yogurt plant in New Berlin with local farmers and Congressman Anthony Brindisi (D-N.Y.)
Brindisi said Trump Administration’s policies are having a negative effect on farmers and he wants to show that to Perdue.
“They are getting hurt by tariffs and trade practices. They're being hurt by immigration," said Brindisi.
"I want to make sure that the agricultural secretary sees first hand and hears from farmers in this district, producers in this district about some of their needs so he can implement better policies down in Washington.”
Before the visit to Chobani, Perdue will host a roundtable with farmers at Ravines Wine Cellars in Geneva with Congressman Tom Reed (R-N.Y.).
