ITHACA, NY (WSKG) - Congressman Tom Reed (NY-23) is defending President Trump as the public phase of the House Impeachment inquiry continues.
On Thursday, Reed said Trump has done nothing impeachable. He said the President's July 25th phone call was focused on investigating corruption around former Vice President Joe Biden and his family.
Others in Congress have said what the President did was withhold congressionally-approved military aid for personal reasons and that it is worthy an impeachment investigation.
Biden was part of an international effort to remove a Ukranian prosecutorwho was supposed to be investigating corruption.
Reed said Biden had a conflict of interest when it came to foreign policy with Ukraine because his son, Hunter, was on the board of a Ukrainian oil and gas company.
"To the issue of what the President was raising," Reed said. "I think he was pursuing legitimate issues of corruption that have not been investigated."
Supporters of the inquiry said President Trump wanted Ukraine to investigate Biden because the former Vice President is a candidate for the Democratic Presidential nomination in 2020.
Reed has been consistent in his support of the president and his opposition to any impeachment investigations.
