O'Mara Leads Danks Burke In NY-58 Senate Race

WSKG Election 2020 NY58 Senate Race

CORNING, NY (WSKG) - New York’s 58th Senate District race ended election night without a declared winner, but with one candidate with a sizable lead.

NY-58 covers Chemung, Steuben, Schuyler, Yates and parts of Tompkins counties.

The incumbent, Republican Sen. Tom O’Mara, leads Democratic challenger, Leslie Danks Burke with nearly all districts reporting.

However, election night ballot numbers do not include absentee ballots, which will not be counted until next week and the results could take longer to tally.

“This election won't be declared until every vote is counted and every citizen's voice is heard,” said Danks Burke speaking at a press conference in Ithaca.

The 2020 NY-58 race is Danks Burke’s second run for the district seat. She also challenged O’Mara in 2016.

O’Mara’s campaign did not respond to a request for an interview.
