Man Arrested For Threats Made Against Rep. Reed Last Year

VESTAL, NY (WSKG) — A Watkins Glen man was arrested and charged Thursday in connection to two incidents of threatening and vandalism made toward Rep. Tom Reed (NY-23) last year.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) and Corning Police arrested Jack Kahabka, 21, Thursday and charged him with felony counts of making terroristic threats and criminal mischief. The charges were in connection with two events which occurred last year.

Police alleged Kahabka, in August, threw a brick through the window of Reed’s election office on Market Street in Corning.

The terroristic threats charge came from an event in October where police alleged Kahabka placed a dead rat with a noose around its neck outside Reed’s home in Corning along with a brick and note with several threats including “death to Pelosi”, “death to Biden”, “Death to Trump”, “death to America” and “death from Imperiation.”

Police said Kahabka was arrested without incident and was awaiting arraignment in Steuben County Jail as of Thursday afternoon.

Reed has served in Congress since 2010, but said he will not run for re-election after allegations of sexual misconduct were raised against him earlier this year. Reed initially described the accusations as "not accurate," but, upon announcing his decision not to run, called his depictions of what happened "irrelevant".
