Are you looking to engage your student in science enrichment programs but not sure where to turn? Here are a few taking place in the next few months:Invention Convention: Binghamton Imagininkin connection with the Central New York Patent Law Association (CNYPLA) is conducting an invention education program open to all students in grades K-8 in both public and private schools. This program is intended to teach children how to invent and to increase awareness and appreciation of the importance of invention in the United States. To participate in this program, the student is invited to invent a new idea for a device or a new method for doing something. The student is asked to think of a problem they have encountered, or know of, and to come up with an idea for a device or method to solve the problem. The problem to be solved can occur anywhere, such as in the classroom, in the home or even during play.Southern Tier Scholastic Fair:STSCF is dedicated to encouraging middle and high school students of the Southern Tier of New York to pursue and excel in scientific and technological inquiries through individual science projects. It provides a forum for developing academic skills, such as conducting an independent scientific investigation, writing research papers, speaking, preparing an organized display, and becoming familiar with the scientific method.All students in grades 5-12 from public, private and parochial schools or those that are home schooled within the geographical areas of Broome, Tioga and Chenango Counties and surrounding areas are encouraged to participate. The Cortland and Ithaca American Association of University Women (AAUW) Branches are working together to host 200 area girls in Grades 6-9 and accompanying adults at Tompkins Cortland Community College in Dryden as part of the AAUW National Tech Savvy Program.SciGirls: Designer Genes and SciGirl Queens will take place at Binghamton University on April 29th engaging girls activities, demonstrations and mentoring opportunities.
