Arrival: Traditions Carried, Stories Shared - African & Afro-Cuban Drum, Dance & Culture

Arrival: Traditions Carried, Stories Shared - African & Afro-Cuban Drum, Dance & Culture

The Foundation of Light, CSMA, Open Doors English, Salsa Ithaca, and Asempe Kitchen are collaborating on a transformative weekend event June 20-22 celebrating the rhythms, stories, and flavors of African and Afro-Cuban traditions through dance, drumming, storytelling, and food. This immersive gathering is more than a cultural experience—it is a platform for community engagement, activism, and support for artists who share their heritage and histories.

Through workshops, performances, and a post-performance Q&A, attendees will not only experience the beauty of these traditions but also engage in meaningful conversations about what it means to arrive and share cultural experiences through art.

Saturday evening activities at CSMA:
6pm - West African Cooking Demo
7:30pm - PERFORMANCE - Arrival: Traditions Carried, Stories Shared
60-minute Dance, Drum, & Musical performances with Mohamed Diaby, Adolfo Castillo and Lisbet López, and special guest Alejandro Baldoquin, plus a video performance from Lamine Thiam. A Q&A with the artists follows the performance.
