Special Tribute to Gene Endres Radio Program/Hobo's Lullaby
Gene Endres brought creativity and wonder to his role as a long-time on-air host and DJ for WICB-FM's Tuesday morning show, The Hobo's Lullaby, as well as to his other contributions to the Ithaca community. With gratitude and imagination, several of Endres's colleagues and friends have produced a tribute program to air on Tuesday, June 18, in the regular Hobo's time slot, 10am to 12 noon. The show will be re-broadcast on Sunday, June 23, 2 to 4pm in the afternoon.
Gene passed away suddenly in October, 2022. He hosted The Hobo's Lullaby for more than 30 years. It had a folk music "slot," but in reality, Gene brought much more. Digging up traditional, ethnic, Americana, and international music, he also shared stories, poetry, history, weather and all kinds of anecdotes with his audience. He created new ways to connect with listeners—broadcasting live from a moving bicycle; capturing railroad sounds live; recording summer crickets or the sound of storms; a world of audio imagination.
